Tilly – 10 month old female Springer cross Beagle

Tilly is a normal 10 month old female Springer cross Beagle. She will need an active household as when she is bored she does start to create mischief. As she is a pup she is still teething but we are finding frozen carrots are helping with this. she is slightly dominant over our resident dog and so if she is going to a house with another dog they will need to be a bit laid back. Tilly can sit on command but will need a lot of work on her recall, as she has selective hearing. She is a really loving dog that loves an evening cuddle.

When she is walking she does pull a little but her head is down and her nose is working. She has eaten a shoe and tends to rip soft toys but she has not eaten any of the furniture. Tilly is still learning that she doesn’t need to inhale her food and so we make her sit and wait before she has her dinner and she is currently being fed in a slow feeding bowl.

So just to re-cap, Tilly is a lovely energetic 10 month old pup that needs long walks and plenty of stimulation, can be an only dog or as a member of a doggy pack.

Tilly is not neuteed due to age but she is chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee. Applications via forms section of website please.

Hope – 8 month old female Springer cross Labrador

Hope is an 8 month Springer cross Labrador, she is the size of a small Labrador. Hope is looking for an active home where she can enjoy life to the full. As a youngster she still has some puppy traits, her favorite being to steal slippers and chew the liners, her second is that she believes she is the andrex puppy and enjoys stealing the toilet rolls and unraveling them around the house! She will happily bring stolen things back when asked and will give them up freely.

Hope enjoys her walks and free run time, she does pull on a lead but will walk to heel when reminded and is always better on her return walks. Her recall is good and will respond to a dog whistle. Hope would be best suited with another dog who will help her flourish. She is good with other dogs when out and in the home and is currently in foster with a sprocker who she adores. She would be best suited with older children as being young she can be a bit bouncy. She has no food or toy aggression and will take treats gently.

Hope arrived into foster with us unfortunately not toilet trained. We have been working on this and things have improved but still does have some accidents in the home. She will need someone at home with her most of the time to continue the toilet training. She is clean when in her crate and can be left for a couple of hours. She settles well in an evening and enjoys cuddles on the sofa.

Due to her age and not yet having her first season Hope is not neutered and will be adopted with a contract to spay. Hope is chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee. Applications via forms section of website please. Location is in Shrewsbury. Please be aware you will need to travel twice to this location.

Ralphy – 9 month old male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cross Springer

Ralphy is a 9 month old male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cross Springer. Adorable Ralphy is looking for a new home as his family cannot give him the exercise and attention he needs. They got him 3 months ago under the pretence that he was a full Cavalier but have since realised he has some Springer in his breeding and therefore is a very high energy dog. Ralphy is a typical, friendly and sociable young boy who mixes well with other dogs and currently shares his home with 2 cats. He also lives with young children but we are looking for a home where any children are over the age of 10.

Ralphy has recently suffered from Campylobacter (upset tummy) and is currently on a course of anti-biotics for this. Once treated it is unlikely that this will cause Ralphy any further problems, however he may always have a sensitive tummy and could require a special diet in the future.

Ralphy will need an active home, preferably with someone who has had Springers before and can provide him with the exercise and stimulation that he needs. As he is only a young boy he can become destructive when left alone so will also need a home with someone around for most/all of the day. He can also jump high and will easily scale baby gates and can also get onto work surfaces so his new owner must be prepared for this and help him learn some boundaries.

Poor Ralphy has already endured a lot of upheaval in his short life and desperately needs some stability now. He will make such a fantastic friend.

Arthur – 9-10 month old male Springer cross English Cocker Spaniel

Arthur is a 9-10 month old male Springer cross English Cocker Spaniel. On the day we picked Arthur up from kennels he was like a little lost soul. He didn’t even respond to his name and wouldn’t play with any of the toys we offered him. He happily slept in his cage. Over the weeks he has been with us we have had the pleasure of getting to know the real Arthur! His recall is getting much better and he has even learnt some low level agility for fun with my 13 year old daughter, who he adores. He travels really well, is house trained and is a born comedian, making us laugh at every opportunity. He has learnt to love his toys and games.

He isn’t really food or treat driven. He had no idea how to behave on a lead to begin with and was very reactive to lots of situations and people. This has gradually got better over the weeks and he only reacts occasionally (barks mainly) now. We are so proud of how far he has come. In the house he is so loving and settled. Occasionally he starts silly games as most puppies do at this age. An example of this is grabbing something like a DVD and “showing it to us” and then running off as fast as possible wanting us to chase! Again this has much improved over the weeks and it’s just his way of getting the attention he craves.

Arthur would suit an active family with older children. He loves my teenage children. He was very unsure of my toddlers initially but has learnt to love them but think he would be more suited to older children due to his excited bouncy nature and occasional resource guarding. This is Arthur’s more difficult side. Something I’m sure, in a correct home and consistent training, can be overcome.

Although when out and about Arthur can be nervous of new situations, in the house he is very confident and sometimes “bossy”! He will try and push his boundaries with people and other dogs in the house. This is normally over things like the sofa, bed, toys etc and normally is a growl and raised lip at people. He has never gone as far as to bite. With other dogs in the house however, he will push it further and snap at them but again this is something that is getting better.

Arthur would thrive in an active home doing either agility, canicross or flyball and I’m sure will blossom into a lovely family dog with time and patience.I’m sure he would happily live with another, non reactive dog.

Max – 6 year old male Springer cross Collie

Max is a 6 year old male Springer cross Collie. Max has sadly come back into rescue as he is too nervous to be around young children, he was originally re homed as a pup and now children have been added to the mix poor Max is looking for his forever home without little people.

He is a great lad who needs an energetic home, he loves chasing a ball and will happily bring it back as many times as you will throw it for him. He would be best suited to a home with older teenagers or adults only who have an active life where Max will be included for most of the time.

He is quite strong on the lead so would benefit from a little further training. He has lived with a cat although he will chase if the cat is not very bold and dog savvy. Max travels well in the car, is clean in the house and can be left for short periods and is not destructive.

Max has been neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped and is currently being fostered in Hampton MIddlesex.

Callie – 6 year old female Springer cross Patterdale Terrier

Callie is a 6 year old female Springer cross Patterdale Terrier. She is a friendly girl who would like a quiet but active home, somewhere where she will get lots of walks or maybe join her new owner jogging. She would like her owners to be around most of the time as she likes to be with you, perhaps with another dog for company and to play with. She loves to be able to sit or curl up next to you on the sofa, sometimes leaning into you and resting her head under your chin, she just wants a hug! Callie has met my grandsons and was happy to have a cuddle, I think she would be better with calmer older children 12+.

Callie loves getting in the car and travels well although she may whine for the first 10 minutes or so. She loves her walks, pulls on a lead/harness but walks beautifully on a Gencon. This is essential at the moment as she will try to chase cars when she is being walked on the pavements. I have started some reward based training for this and have found a Gencon clipped to a harness for added security to work well. Further training will be needed in her new home. In the garden and secure field her recall is good and I have started to let her off lead in reasonably secure areas. When out on walks, if she sees a squirrel or bird her attention is focused entirely on it so more training on recall will be needed. On walks Callie likes to say hello to all dogs and people if at all possible. Only once has she barked at another dog and that was when it was straining at the end of a lead and started barking at her first.

Callie will retrieve a ball and release it on return for a treat. I don’t know if she would share her toys with another dog or not as my own are not interested in them. I have left Callie in the company of my own dogs for 3 hours without any problem she was allowed the freedom of the house and was not destructive. She does like to take the post out of the letter box but will release it immediately when asked to do so. Callie has previously had very sore skin, this has been resolved and she is not on any medication. Her new owners will need to keep an eye on her to make sure there is no re-occurrence.

Callie is currently on a raw diet which suits her well and she loves it. She is fed twice daily and away from my own dogs as she growled at one of them initially, this has improved and she is now fed in the same room albeit several feet away. This was just around her food bowl as she takes treats nicely around other dogs and awaits her turn calmly. There haven’t been any issues with her food bowl and myself. Callie sleeps on her own bed in my room at night as this is where my own dogs sleep.

Callie is not neutered due to the timing of her seasons and will be rehomed with a contract to do so and not with entire males. She is chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee. Applications via forms section of website please.

Darcy – 6 year old female Springer cross Hungarian Vizsla

Darcy is a 6 year old female Springer cross Hungarian Vizsla. She was rehomed due to growing tensions with the other resident dogs. For this reason she is looking for a dog free home. When HRH Princess Darcy arrived with us in foster she landed like a hurricane!! But within a couple of days she settled and found her place and is a real sweetie. Darcy loves people, cuddles, tennis balls, tuggy ropes and a nice comfy sofa. She is great playing with her toys with you and is an excellent tug of war opponent. She is incredibly clever and picks up brain games very quickly. Darcy particularly likes to present you with your socks, worn and unworn. If she feels that you aren’t paying her enough attention, but gives them back quite easily. She is good with children, but better to be older dog savvy children as she is bouncy and will play chase if they run and has a very “big dog” bark for such a tiny princess!! She will chase anything that moves i.e. birds, cats, squirrels, sheep, horses, foxes etc.

Darcy walks perfectly on a harness, however does not like the lead being put on her in the house. When you appear with it ready for a walk she goes running and cowering. We have worked on this with a slow and gentle approach. Darcy is also not keen on going in the car and has to be lifted in, I think this is also linked to her dislike of the lead. Once in the car she actually travels fine, provided she is in a small boot with a dog guard or a covered crate. For this it may be better for her to find a home where she will have minimal trips in the car. She is however fine to get in the car after a nice long walk to head home. Now to the reason Darcy was rehomed, she is dog reactive. We are told this is due to being jumped on by a GSD when she was a puppy. In her previous home they were able to manage this with distraction. Since being with us we have been working on gaining her trust in us as her handlers and working with distraction techniques when we meet other dogs out walking. Her favourite distraction technique so far…cheese!!

We have also had her wearing a “nervous” yellow bandanna to ward approaching dog owners which has been helping people to give her some space. However, despite her being reactive, she has also been happy to stand and talk with passing dog walkers with no reaction at all. She loves to play fetch and will bark and jump around with excitement. She also has high prey drive and can suffer from the spaniel deafness but generally her recall is pretty good and she loves being out on walks. Darcy has started to show some signs of separation anxiety. She was crate trained when she arrived and a note from her old owners said that whenever the dogs were left alone they were crated. We have continued this to try and keep as many things the same for Darcy in her new life. There have been a couple of occasions in the last few days where she has attempted to escape her crate and has once succeeded. There was no damage to her or the house. This will be something that will need to be worked on as she settles in to her new home.

A lot of the little issues we have had ie the nervousness of the lead and the car and of course the dog reactiveness, I feel will all improve with trust. She will never fully get over being dog reactive but being able to trust her owners to be in her corner when she needs them will make a huge improvement. I also think she could benefit from doing some agility. Darcy is incredibly clever and is as quick as a flash and agility would really help to focus her intelligence and to build that much needed bond with her new owner. All in all, Darcy is a beautiful and sensitive little princess who is just looking for a nice warm home with a family that will dote on her. Darcy has specifically requested that her new home allows her on the sofa.

Darcy is neutered chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee.

Piper – 8 month old female Springer Cross

Piper is an 8 month old female Springer Cross and loves all the cuddles that she can get! It’s unknown if she has previously lived with with other pets or with children: but from assessments completed at the centre we feel she could live with another dog and sensible children over the age of the 10.

Piper prefers to have company, in both two and four legged form so ideally, we’d love her to go to a home where her owners are around much of the day and have another dog in the home.

Juno – 18 month old female Springer cross Collie

Juno is an 18 month old female Springer cross Collie. She bit at previous home but not really her fault as she was being seperated by owner from other dog. She nipped back of legs in foster with us and bit once when returning from walk when we believe she was stressed by noise and strangers. She air snaps and does have collie tendency to herd and so will nip but there is no power in the bite and its mostly play. She is not a bad dog just very anxious.

She has behavioral issues like seperation anxiety, Pacing, Guarding, toys, beds etc, nervous. I know that one look at Juno and applications will come flooding in. One of the prettiest dogs I have ever met. However looks are deceiving so please take the time to read and understand her character. Juno arrived with me aggressive and guarded. It took me three to four days to actually get near her. However once I got through those initial barriers I realised what a wonderful sweet loving girl she is.

The first few days her separation anxiety was through the roof but as time has gone on this has dramatically improved and she sleeps all through the night on her own and only barks if her walks are late. She still has some guarding issues but is easily distracted and listens to the tone of your voice. It took three visits to the vet before they could examine her but now she loves my vet and happily bounces all over her licking her face.

Juno will need a very active home where she will need mental stimulation as well as lots of physical exercise. Her recall is not great as she can be timid of certain noises which upset her and is likely to bolt off so her potential adopters would need a secure field to start her training. She is more collie than springer in her ways so would love agility etc. She has started over the jumps and through rings and thoroughly enjoys this.

Please only apply if you are experienced in guarding and are prepared to continue in her training.

Juno is good with other dogs outside the home but very bouncy and is best as an only dog in the home.

Lola – 1 year old female Springer Cross

Lola is a 1 year old female Springer Cross. She is a UK girl who has recently been handed into us. Her chip registration has her as a Cocker but we think Sprocker is nearer the mark. She is just over a year old and it’s obvious she has already had one litter and has yet to be spayed. We also have no record of any vaccinations so they will be done again as soon as we can get appointments booked.

Lola has been moved around a lot from what we can gather but she’s a great dog, a few insecurities but getting more confident by the day. She’s bright and high energy as you would expect from this mix, adores playing with one of the dogs in her foster home but could possibly go as an only if someone is around a lot with plenty of time to devote to her.

She needs an adult only home where someone is around all day and who has the time and energy to devote to her. She needs to remain within about an hours distance of Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Please message us if you would like to know a bit more about this gorgeous lass.

(Rehomed) Hazel – 10 year old female Springer Cross

Hazel is a 10 year old female Springer Cross. She was found as a stray, presumed dumped. No one came to claim her, and so after 7 days in the pound she was taken to South East Dog Rescue. As you will see from her photos, She had a huge mass which was removed soon after she arrived.

It weighed almost 1kg, so she was so happy not to have to carry that around any longer. Thankfully it was a benign tumour, and she recovered quickly and easily after the surgery. She have also had a second surgery to remove some small mammary tumours, and she was spayed at the same time.

The vets X-ray’d her chest which was all clear and so now she fully recovered from all surgeries and am ready to find her new family. Please do not let her age fool you! She a pocket rocket with a LOT of energy!! She absolutely love her walks and will need someone physically fit and able to work on her lead walking, as slow and steady is yet to exist in her vocabulary!!

She absolutely love people, and can live with sensible, dog savvy children aged 6 years and over. She happy to meet other dogs without any issues, and could live as an only dog, or with a canine friend. Unfortunately no cats or small furries.

It’s unlikely that she have any recall off lead she find smells far too interesting and my hearing is not all it used to be. She have not shown any signs of separation anxiety whilst in kennels, and appear to be house trained. She a perfect patient at the vets, and am learning to be calm in the car.

She haven’t had much training, so my new family will need to be prepared to invest time. Older dogs can certainly learn new trick especially if there are treats involved!! Before applying, please remember that I have a lot of energy as well as a lot of love to give!! I will need mental and physical stimulation, and a lot of cuddles. As well as a secure garden!!

Merlin – 6 year old male English Cocker Spaniel cross Springer

Merlin is a 6 year old male English Cocker Spaniel cross Springer. He came into rescue after an unfortunate incident when out walking left him with a Dog Control Order being issued against him. Merlin is THE most amazing, gentle, sweet, loving boy, but a chance encounter with a jogger in the woods one day was to change his future.

The jogger cane out of nowhere and startled him and Merlin nipped him He was reported and the only way his owners could prevent the guy from filing for his destruction was to agree to accept a D.C.O on him, after which they felt they could no longer keep Merlin as they were worried they could not keep him safe.

Merlin could stay with us forever as he is truly AMAZING, but he is worth so much more than the life he will have here in rescue. There are quite strict controls placed on him (which we are happy to discus in more detail with anyone interested in adopting him), but basically he must be kept in a lead out walking and if off a lead he must be muzzled.

He cannot be walked by anyone under 16 years of age and the garden of the place he resides in must be 100% secure and display a warning sign that a dog is lose on the property. Merlin is an impeccably behaved dog.

He walks nicely on a lead, travels well in the car, loves all other dogs, is crate and house trained, has fabulous recall and is great at retrieving. He was a much loved pet from being a small puppy and we are still in contact with his owners who miss him everyday.

They felt that he was always a little stressed living in a town and was always much happier in the country, so we are looking for a lovely rural home for this super dog, with a person we trust will 100% obey the D.C.O and keep this boy safe for the rest of his life. In return you will get the best dog.

Badger and Cheeky – 11 year old male Springer cross Labrador and 14 year old female Parson Russell Terrier

Badger is an 11 year old male Springer cross Labrador, and Cheeky is a 14 year old female Parson Russell Terrier who are in foster in Chippenham, Wiltshire, waiting for someone to offer them a new home together.

Badger and Cheeky are really lovely dogs who took only a couple of days to settle in foster care. They love to be around their family, Badger playing fetch, and Cheeky snuggling. They do like to have company but are fine when left for up to 4 hours occasionally. Cheeky will whine on and off when left though. Badger is fine with dogs once introduced, but Cheeky can be a little wary of them.

They need a home together where they are your only dogs. We don’t know how they would be with cats. They don’t seem to pay much attention to cats they see on walks. Cheeky and Badger should be fine around older children who are used to dogs. They haven’t lived with children before but were used to having children from toddlers upwards visit their previous home. They both love to go out for fun walks.

Badger pulls a bit on his lead at times through excitement. Cheeky walks well and doesn’t pull much. They currently have 2 short walks of about 10 minutes, plus a longer walk of about 30 minutes, each day. Badger travels well in the car, as does Cheeky, but Cheeky will whine a little bit at times. Badger is a fun-loving boy who absolutely adores playing fetch, and having belly rubs and cuddles!

Cheeky is a sweet older lady who loves to snooze! Badger doesn’t like busy roads with lots of passing traffic. Other than that their foster carer hasn’t come across anything they don’t like. We don’t know how they feel about fireworks though. Badger and Cheeky need to be rehomed together. They would like a home somewhere quiet with people who will give them lots of love and attention and who don’t mind dogs getting on the sofa or humans’ bed.

Having said that, Badger will not go upstairs at all. They are both neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. Cheeky has had a lump removed from her leg, which proved to be benign. Badger has a fatty lump on his chest which is nothing to worry about.

Effy – 8 year old female Springer cross Pointer

Effy is an 8 year old female Springer cross Pointer. She came into the care of SAUK, has had her vaccinations restarted, and is now up to date. Effy will sometimes lick her belly but will stop when told NO, to date while fostering the licking has not caused any issues. Effy is a little superstar, however, she is nervous about new people and situations, she shows this by growling and barking whilst also wagging her tail. She is cautious but once she trusts you she is all in and her new people will have a fantastic time watching her personality appear as she gains more and more confidence. We left a bowl of dog treats by the front door and asked guests to take one and give it when Effy has settled, this has created a positive association with visitors as the way to Effy’s heart is definitely via her tummy. (She loves her tuck).

Effy will sit, stay and give a paw. She also understands down. Effy will sit and wait for her breakfast and dinner to be put down, she is also very gentle when taking a treat from you. She is fantastic on the lead and does not generally pull, she does enjoy a good snuffle about on a walk but she does not stray far away from her person. Effy is house trained, since living with her foster Effy initially had to be walked out into the garden but over the course of a couple of days, she would take herself in and out as she had free access via an open door. As mentioned above Effy is initially nervous about new people and places. She will bark and growl at people due to initial anxiousness however she is easily bribed with treats as she is very food orientated and this behavior disappears quickly once she is sure of you.

Effy was successfully introduced to extended family when she had gained a little confidence in her foster home without any issues, the secret with Effy is to take it slowly and let her come to you when she has settled with you. Effy is always keen to go for a walk and excited when she sees the lead, however, she does not need excessive walking, whilst in foster she would have a snuffle round the garden first thing, and have her breakfast, once that had settled we would go for a 40 – 50 minute walk she is happily walking along the road and has since arriving developed a liking for the woods.

She will then sleep, Effy loves her sleep, in the evening she likes a short walk of 20 mins any longer and she is looking to go home. About 10pm out for a quick toilet break and then bed. She will once settle in, sleep quietly during the night. Effy likes a tennis ball but is not really interested/does not understand snuffle balls or lick mats, but may once she is really settled. Effy is a soppy dog who just wants to love and be loved, however, because she is nervous and will do the barking/growling thing at the beginning this does not come across initially.

She is in essence slightly socially awkward, but once she is settled and realizes you are her people Effy is like a little shadow and she will like to keep close and have lots of cuddles and belly rubs. We knew she had settled in when we saw the appearance of her very waggly bottom, she had always wagged her tail but it is a joy to see when her bottom joins in.

In essence, Effy just needs a bit of time to be sure of you, but when she is there is absolutely no doubt you will be in for the best ongoing treat. On walks Effy is nervous of other dogs, especially ones of the lead that are bound up, however, this is a work in progress, and on the advice of the SAUK trainer, we have been working on anticipating her reaction, turning walking away until she is settled and then trying again until she walks past in a calm manner.

We have seen significant progress with this over a short period of time and if continued I have no doubt as Effy gets more and more confident this will be seen less and less. Effy has seen cats in the garden and squirrels etc on walks, she appears interested and watches them but does not pull on her lead nor try to chase them. She has a low prey drive, does not chase birds, etc.

No guarding loves a tennis ball and will swap but not give up. Once you have got her trust there are no issues handling her, can wash dry paws, and pick her up, she’s very gentle. Due to her nervousness initially, Effy was stressed when being left alone, but once settled we have worked on her being left alone for long periods which has worked and she is now happy to be left for 1 – 2 hours without an issue, this again will improve over time. She will bark on your return but only because she is so happy to see you, we have been doing calm exits and entries.

Again once settled in after a few days she will sleep happily and quietly through the night. Effy had previous experience of children and once settled here has been absolutely fine with my daughter, but can be a bit unsure at the start if there is a loud shout or if she is approached suddenly. She will bark and growl on these occasions, given this, Effy whilst absolutely fine with children may suit a home with adults/children who have had previous experience with dogs to allow her to build her confidence with you, her new people.

Effy has been hosed down in hot weather and was absolutely fine with it, she stood still whilst being lathered up and hosed back down. She doesn’t have that magnetism towards water and mud that most Spaniels have so less bathing is required. Effy did very well at the vets, a little nervous but no problems and they loved her, she got lots of treats. Effy will happily jump into the car, however, she is not overly keen on journeys and will move around.

We have been working on this with lots of short trips and we can see a definite improvement, there is no reason to believe this would not continue. Effy is a hugely soppy dog with the sweetest nature once you get over her social awkwardness. She just wants to be loved and to love. She will need people who are willing to get past the short period of nervous barking/growling to see this, she just needs her confidence building and a bit of reassurance that she is where she will be staying and her loving nature will shine through.

Effy likes being next to you or in the same room as you during the day, she loves loves loves her bed and will spend a lot of time snoozing there. In the morning and evenings, she will come to you for a lovely belly rub and a fuss. She is a loving and affectionate dog who deserves an amazing home with her own lovely people.

Effy would suit a household where someone is home the majority of the time as she adores company, she will form a strong bond and will be a perfect house doggie.

Sabrina – 3 year old female Springer Cross

Sabrina is a 3 year old female Springer Cross. She is a very relaxed girl at the home. She loves lazing around nearby me on hot days. She most relishes any opportunity to spend long periods of time in a large garden or field, exploring everything she can and using her nose busily. She would love to do scent work and/or mantrailing with her new guardian.

She can be quite anxious about going to new places and is often easily startled by loud noises or strange animals/birds. I’d expect that her social life has been very small and many experiences remain quite novel. She has had a lot of positive social experiences whilst in foster and is growing in confidence daily. She is surprisingly resilient and recovers fairly quickly from frightening experiences, such as going to the vet.

She’s very fond of a cuddle with her trusted person, although this is on her terms and she isn’t always in the mood for too much body handling. She likes a gentle groom but will grab my hands with her teeth if I fiddle with knots or nails. I’ve introduced her to my housemate 2 year old niece. She did several minutes of sniffing feet, then legs, then moving away to sniff the ground before coming back for a bottom sniff and touching hands with her nose. This was done vigilantly with no human touch or unexpected movement and they were great friends within 20 minutes.

I wouldn’t expect her to cope with meeting lots of new people in the home, especially groups of children. She seems not to distinguish between men, women, or children. They are all quite scary when they reach out or move in toward her, so this is avoided. She has met friends and family, who she was suspicious of initially but after slow intros, she ‘manages’ to be touched once she feels safe around them.

We’ve had a lot of positive experiences with other dogs, some of whom she briefly meets before moving along. Large black dogs (Labs, Collies, Rotties) worry her and she is not a fan of overzealous or boisterous youngsters. She loves being in the company of other calm dogs but is equally happy lazing around on her own. She learned a lot from our older spaniel Alfie and would benefit from another confident older dog to teach her some of the social play skills she has missed out on in the past. She wasn’t toilet trained on arrival and actively avoided going outside (soft carpets are much nicer).

I’ve tended to feed her two meals, at 7am and 2-3pm, to avoid poo’s inside the house at night. Although she is mostly reliable now, she will have the occasional slip-up due to failing to wee outside before bedtime. I would expect a minor lapse of the routine once living in a new context – after 3 years of failing to toilet outside, she might not generalize the new behavior to a different context.

She always excitement pees when I return home and stroke her (even if only out for 5-10 mins)! I now walk into the house ignoring her completely until we are outside, then I tell her to ‘go wee wee’ (lots of ‘Good Girl’ ‘Yes’, and Well Done’) before I say hello and pet her, whereupon she might wee again. She’s a bit of a fussy eater, loves fish and meat mainly but will eat some eggs, fruit, and veg. She is a bit growly around a bone and will resource guard socks or other items of clothing.

I’ve never tried to take anything from her mouth, but expect she might well bite and will certainly run off to hide with it. I always get some tasty food from the fridge and scatter feed it away from the illegal item. She’d love to sleep in your bed, under your covers, probably lying on your face. Usually sleeps on the sofa. She is very used to running all over the furniture and enjoys climbing things for a better view.

She can be left at home for 2-4 hours quite happily (with access to the garden), although I do leave her with many toys, bones, and chews so she doesn’t feel the need to destroy my own things! I think she’d love a nice rural home with one or two adults who are happy for hugs and strokes to be on her terms. She probably won’t be a dog who enjoys busy places, camping holidays, or lots of social occasions with new people.

She does enjoy active walks in quiet places and if she pulls on the lead I know she is over-aroused or fearful so will avoid whatever trigger it may have been (traffic, noise, animals). She adores cuddling up on the sofa in the evening and generally following you all around the house. She’s really affectionate when she wants to be and quite a low-maintenance dog who’s happy to sleep in or have an active day on the move.

Buster – 12 year old male Springer cross Spaniel

Buster is a 12 year old male Springer cross Spaniel. “I came into the rescue due to my owner’s ill health, and for the last 2 years have spent my life living in their garden. Upon arrival, it was clear there was some weakness on my back end this has been investigated with X-rays and nothing untoward was seen so most likely muscle wastage due to not being walked.

Since arriving at SEDR this has already improved significantly. I was incredibly matted when I arrived and had to be clipped very short, and I will need regular grooming. I have been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I am a sweet boy who lives to play fetch!

I would happily play ball all day if I could, and will bring it back to you again and again! I can become quite overstimulated by ball play so my foster family has been working on brain games and enrichment.

I was initially strong on the lead, but my foster family has been working hard on this and I now walk with more calmness! I have a lot of energy for a 12 year old dog, so you must be physically fit to be able to walk me! Due to being deprived of love and attention for 2 years in my former home.

I have become increasingly ‘needy’ in my foster home and find it difficult to settle whilst my foster mum works from home. Some days I find it easier, but other days I need constant attention, which can be challenging if you have other things you need to do.

We feel I would benefit from having a dog as company…and a very active home who has the time and energy to keep me occupied. If you are looking for a calm, chilled dog who will sleep under your desk for a few hours after a walk whilst you work.

I am not the dog for you! I will settle down nicely downstairs overnight, and have not shown any signs of separation anxiety when left…but if you are home, I need a lot of attention as I am very insecure. This can be quite exhausting, which is why a more active home where I am out being occupied would suit me better.

I love meeting new dogs and would love to find a home with a canine friend…who can keep up with my energy levels! I am perfectly housetrained (other than a few settling-in accidents) and show no signs of separation anxiety. I am looking for an adult home, without cats. I travel well in the car.

If you think you can offer me the perfect home, please follow the link for the rehoming form.” – Buster

Alfie – 4-5 year old male Pointer cross Springer

Alfie is a 4-5 year old male Pointer cross Springer. He is fostered in Morpeth, UK. He arrived into foster a very shy and nervous boy scared of household noises, having never lived in a home environment before. In just a few weeks, he has transformed into a happy and joyful boy.

“Alfie always greets me with a waggy tail and lots of love (more than my own dogs in fact!). He loves his walks and jumps in the back of the car excitedly when he knows we’re going on an adventure. He loves dogs but is nervous of people he doesn’t know. I definitely think he is Pointer cross Springer, as he does the Spaniel excited spins when he meets a new dog he wants to play with. He does come around to new people quicker now.

He has never shown any aggression to people when scared, he just hides. He has been left at home with both dogs and by himself and he settled well with no signs of anxiety at all. He’s a really lovely affectionate boy once he knows you and at almost 5 years old, he deserves to find his forever family”.

Alfie would be best suited to life with an active family, or as a best mate to someone who likes adventures. We would like to find a forever home for our beautiful boy.

He is an energetic, loving boy who would love a securely fenced garden, where he has lots of play and exercise, preferably with another dog for company. He can be rehome to a home with children over 14 years old.

All dogs come to UK under protection of our charity, with EU passport, microchip, vaccinated and neuter ,full rescue back up and 5 weeks free pet insurance . Adoption fee and home check apply.
